COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CUSTARD MIX, EGG, DRY, NO-BAKE
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Veterans Administration Specification X-1640/9a.
This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers custard mix, egg, dry, no-take, packed into commercially acceptable containers, suitable for use by the Federal Government.
Salient Characteristics.
The egg custard mix shall be a vanilla-flavored, free-flowing powder. The mix shall be formulated to be prepared without baking, using whole or skim milk. The product shall contain egg yolk solids as a characterizing ingredient. The egg custard mix shall meet the following analytical requirements:
Protein – Not less than 3.5%
Moisture – Not more than 3.0%
Fat – Not more than 4.5%
Standard Plate Count – Not more than 20,000 per gram
Coliform – Not more than 10 per gram
Salmonella – Negative
Unless otherwise specified in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order, the egg custard mix shall be manufactured not more than 45 days prior to shipment.
Contractor’s Certification.
By submitting an offer, the contractor certifies that the product offered meets the specific salient characteristics of this CID; conforms to the producer’s own specifications and standards, including product characteristics, manufacturing procedures, quality control procedures, and storage and handling practices; has a national or regional distribution from storage facilities located within the United States, its territories, or possessions; and is sold on the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to determine proof of such conformance prior to first delivery from point of origin and any time thereafter, up to an including delivery at final destination, as may be necessary to determine conformance with the provisions of the contract.
