For Department of Defense procurement.
The following requirements are applicable when specified by the contracting officer:
A. Commercial packaging. Not more than 22 ounces of product shall be packaged in a foil-laminated bag or metal can in accordance with good commercial practice.
B. Commercial packing. The product shall be packed in a shipping container complying with Uniform Freight Classification or National Motor Freight Classification, as applicable, except metal fasteners shall not be used in the final closure of the fiberboard boxes.
C. Commercial unit loads. Shipping containers shall be arranged in unit loads in accordance with Type III, Class G of MIL-L-35078. When unit loads are strapped, the strapping shall be limited to non-metallic strapping.
D. Export packaging.
1. Foil-laminated bag. Not more than 22 ounces of product shall be packaged in a foil-laminated bag in accordance with good commercial practice.
2. Can. Not more than 22 ounces of product shall be packaged in an open top style, round metal can with a soldered or welded side seam and compound-lined, double-seamed ends. The ca shall be made throughout from not less than 0.25 pounds per base box electrolytic tin plate. The can shall have a sufficient base weight and temper to protect the product during shipment and storage. The can shall be coated over all on the outside with a coating conforming to Type I or when specified Type III of TT-C-495.
E. Export packing.
1. Foil-laminated bags. Bags shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard constructed and closed in accordance with Style RSC-L, Grade W5c or W5s board partition which provides a cell for each bag. In addition, weather-resistant grade fiberboard pads shall be placed on top and bottom of the bags. Each fiberboard box shall be reinforced with nonmetallic strapping or pressure-sensitive adhesive filament-reinforced taped in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
2. Cans. Cans of product shall be packaged in a snug-fitting fiberboard box, constructed and closed in accordance with Style RSC, Grade W5c or W5s of PPP-B-636. Each fiberboard box shall be reinforced with nonmetallic strapping or pressure-sensitive adhesive filament-reinforced tape in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
