COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORMULAS, INFANT (MILK-BASED)
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description (CID) as a replacement for CID’S Formula, Infant, Concentrated, Liquid, Milk-Based, Iron Fortified, A-A-20002; and Formula, Infant, Powdered, Milk-Baaed, A-A-20080.
Salient characteristics.
A. Types.
The milk-based infant formula shall be of the following types and classes as specified in the contract or purchase order.
Type I- Formula, Infant
Class 1- Ready-to-feel
Class 2- Liquid, Concentrated
Class 3- Powder
Type I infant formula is deficient to iron, supplemental iron would be required if fed to an infant as the sole source of food.
Type II infant formula with iron shall supply not less than 1.48 mg iron (Fe) per 100 Kcal (10.0 mg iron (Fe) per liter at standard dilution. The source of the iron shall be ferrous sulfate.
